Sustainably Sourced Wood Frames

It all starts with the frame. Serving as the foundation of your upholstered seating, this internal structure needs to be strong and carefully crafted, as it determines the stability, support, and overall shape of your sofa, sectional, or chair. 

Our artisan partners in North Carolina and Texas work with materials sourced all over the world, and that includes building each upholstery frame by hand using responsibly sourced laminated hardwood. Often constructed from eucalyptus or poplar, this multi-layered, cross-directional wood is ultra-strong, durable, and kiln-dried to prevent cracking and warping.

Thoughtfully Chosen Suspension Systems

The suspension systems are absolutely crucial when it comes to the comfort and durability of your Arhaus seating. Editor’s note: You’ll notice we said “systems”—that’s because many of our sofas, sectionals, and chairs feature separate systems in their seats and backrests, each one thoughtfully chosen to provide maximum comfort based on silhouette and construction style. 

Some of our most popular suspension systems include:

Sinuous Springs: No-sag springs beneath each seat cushion stretch and conform to your body weight, providing evenly dispersed, firm-yet-flexible comfort. 

Flexolator Springs: Heavy-duty, 11-gauge coiled springs made of 95% recycled steel or aluminum provide evenly dispersed, firm-yet-flexible comfort.

8-Way Hand-Tied Suspension: In this traditional, labor-intensive method, steel coils beneath each seat cushion are connected by hand-tied nylon twine for comfortable, evenly dispersed support. 

Webbed Suspension: Strong, woven elastic provides a resilient and reliable network of flexible, evenly dispersed comfort.

When it comes to our made-in-America collections, all cushions are made from the softest and most supportive materials sourced around the world, and feature high-resiliency foam cores, a key component to their lasting comfort. Some collections’ cushion cores are wrapped in foam for maximum loft, others include different blends of foam and sterilized feathers for a “sink-into-it” feel, and some feature individually wrapped spring coils for extra comfort.

Spring Cushion Core: Each seat cushion core contains flexible, interconnected steel coils, providing additional support and continuous comfort.

Eco Foam Cushion Core: Each seat cushion core is made from dense foam derived from partially plant-based material.

Down Blend: Each seat cushion or backrest is padded with a sterilized down-and-feather blend, along with poly-fiber to create a relaxing, “sink-into-it” feel.

Memory Fiber: Each cushion or backrest is filled with resilient memory fiber for long-lasting loft and comfort.
