storied ii: segreto
In brushstrokes. In his work and his words. An artist shares the sun-dappled soul of his beloved Verona.
PART 1, MOMENTS KEPT
In the midst of the many interesting antiques he collects, Rino notices the way the light coming in from the window casts shadows on the concrete floor. He mentions it’s beautiful. And it is. However fleeting each moment, you can be sure by the way he pays such careful attention, that he will take what he needs from it. To make drawings, like he does every day. And some nights, when the ideas wake him. “It’s their time,” he says. “It’s their turn.” Those ideas now fill the corners of his studio. Just as his pride and warmth fill the air within it.
When he paints, he dabs then squints his eyes. Seeing what others could only hope to. His brush leaves behind wings and stems. As if history herself was guiding each line and curve. Sharing the faint taste and sweet smells of drying paint and sawdust. All the while, music plays. And a voice sings softly in Italian. Ensuring the spirit here stirs. Every. Single. Sense.
PART 2, CARRYING ON
Felt here, is the entireness of a man’s heart. Present in his work, his collecting and in the family that helps him carry his great loves forward. A family that, after 30 years of working closely together, we are lucky to be a part of. Experiencing firsthand the way Rino enjoys sharing his work with those closest to him, especially his daughters Sara and Monika.
Each has vivid memories of their childhood. Accompanying their father on his many adventures. Visiting the studio. Walking through city markets. Even joining him on driving trips to share his work in Paris, Holland, and other cities in Europe. These memories of creating and collecting and togetherness mean the world to all of them. And it shows. Both in the specialness of their work and in the family they’ve created in this studio. A family that embraces tradition and appreciates the opportunity to continue on.
These moments will never be enough to tell the story of our lifetimes.
